Help configuring SAP R/3: transaction SM59

Ah, ok: So I necessarly need to configure an MTA on my R/3 Server to deliver
mail to our Central MTA?

It is not possible to use am MUA (mail client), or to connect directly to
host:port on our Central MTA from R/3 ?
